1 minute speech for kids in English: 12 ready examples

Teachers often ask children to speak for one minute on a simple topic. Below are 12 ready speeches your child can read, make their own and practise, plus a 4-step structure that works for any topic.

By the Eloqova team · Updated 25 October 2026

A 4-step structure for any 1-minute speech

  1. Greet and name the topic: "Good morning, everyone. Today I will speak about..."
  2. Say why it matters: one or two sentences.
  3. Give two or three points or examples, ideally one from your own life.
  4. End with one strong line, then "Thank you."

A 1-minute speech is about 100 to 130 words. For UKG to Class 2, 70 to 90 words is plenty.

My School

Good morning, everyone. Today I will speak about my school. My school is my second home. It has big classrooms, a library full of books and a playground where we play every day. My teachers are kind, and they help us learn new things. I have many friends here, and we share our lunch and our stories. My school teaches me not only lessons but also good manners, like saying please and thank you. I am proud of my school, and I love coming here every morning. Thank you.

My Mother

Good morning, everyone. The most special person in my life is my mother. She wakes up before everyone else and makes sure we are ready for the day. She cooks tasty food, helps me with my homework and tells me stories at night. When I am sad, her hug makes everything better. My mother is also my first teacher. She taught me to speak, to share and to be kind. I want to make her proud every day. I love you, Mumma. Thank you.

My Best Friend

Good morning, everyone. My best friend's name is Aarav. We sit together in class and play together at break time. Aarav is honest, funny and always ready to help. When I forgot my pencil box, he shared his with me. When I was sick, he brought me the homework. A good friend makes us happy and helps us become better people. I am lucky to have a friend like Aarav. Thank you.

Save Water

Good morning, everyone. Can you imagine a day without water? No drinking, no bathing and no cooking. Water is precious, and we must not waste it. We can save water in small ways: turn off the tap while brushing our teeth, use a bucket instead of a shower, and fix leaking taps quickly. We can also water plants with the water we used to wash vegetables. Every drop counts. Let us all promise to save water, because water is life. Thank you.

Healthy Food

Good morning, everyone. We are what we eat. Healthy food like fruits, vegetables, milk, pulses and whole grains makes our body strong and our mind sharp. Junk food like chips, burgers and cold drinks may taste good, but too much of it makes us weak and lazy. I try to eat a fruit every day and drink plenty of water. Eating healthy is not boring. It is a way to have more energy to study and play. Thank you.

My Favourite Festival (Diwali)

Good morning, everyone. My favourite festival is Diwali, the festival of lights. We clean our home, decorate it with diyas and rangoli, and wear new clothes. We visit our relatives and share sweets with our neighbours. Diwali reminds us that good always wins over evil and light always wins over darkness. This year, let us celebrate a green Diwali with fewer crackers, so that the air stays clean for everyone. Thank you.

My Pet

Good morning, everyone. I have a pet dog named Bruno. He is brown and white, with soft ears and a wagging tail. Every evening, I take him for a walk and play fetch with him in the park. Bruno is very loyal. He waits at the door when I come home from school. Taking care of Bruno has taught me to be responsible, because I must feed him and keep his water bowl full. Pets are not toys. They are family. Thank you.

Importance of Trees

Good morning, everyone. Trees are our best friends. They give us fresh air to breathe, fruits to eat, shade on hot days and homes for birds. Trees also keep the soil in place and bring rain. But today many trees are being cut down for buildings and roads. If we lose trees, we lose our clean air. Let us plant at least one tree every year on our birthday and take care of it. Plant a tree, save a life. Thank you.

My Favourite Teacher

Good morning, everyone. My favourite teacher is my English teacher. She makes every lesson interesting with stories, games and questions. She never makes fun of our mistakes. Instead, she says mistakes help us learn. Because of her, I am not afraid to speak in class anymore. A good teacher does not just teach a subject. She builds our confidence. Thank you, ma'am, for believing in me. Thank you.

Cleanliness

Good morning, everyone. Cleanliness is a good habit that keeps us healthy. When we keep our body, home and school clean, we stay away from germs and diseases. We should wash our hands before eating, throw rubbish only in the dustbin and keep our classroom tidy. Cleanliness is not only the job of the sweeper. It is the duty of every one of us. If each of us keeps one place clean, our whole country will be clean. Thank you.

Mobile Phones: Good or Bad?

Good morning, everyone. Mobile phones are a wonderful invention. We can talk to our grandparents, learn new things and find any answer in seconds. But too much screen time is bad for our eyes, our sleep and our studies. Many children spend more time on phones than playing outside. I think mobile phones are good when we use them wisely and for a limited time. Let us be the masters of our phones, not their slaves. Thank you.

Reading Books

Good morning, everyone. A book is a friend that never leaves us. When we read, we travel to new places, meet new people and learn new words without leaving our room. Reading improves our imagination, our English and our concentration. I read a few pages every night before sleeping, and my favourite books are adventure stories. If you have not started yet, pick up a book today. You will be surprised how much fun it is. Thank you.

How to make the speech your child's own

  • Change the names and details: their real friend, pet, teacher or favourite book.
  • Add one true story: "Last week, my friend..." Real stories are easier to remember.
  • Replace one or two hard words with words your child uses every day.

How to practise in 3 days

  1. Day 1: read it aloud three times and underline the key word in each sentence.
  2. Day 2: speak from a cue card with only the key words, standing up.
  3. Day 3: record it on your phone, watch it together and praise two things before suggesting one change.
