Vote of thanks speech for kids: samples and useful lines

A vote of thanks is short, but it closes the whole event, so it needs to sound warm and confident. Here is the order to thank people in, ready samples for annual day, sports day and assembly, and lines your child can mix and match.

By the Eloqova team · Updated 26 October 2026

Tip: keep it under two minutes. Thank people in groups, and name only the chief guest, the principal and anyone the school specially asks you to mention.

The order to thank people in

  1. The chief guest and any guests of honour
  2. The principal, and the management or directors if present
  3. The teachers who planned the event
  4. The parents in the audience
  5. The support staff: helpers, guards, drivers and the sound and stage team
  6. The students who performed and volunteered
  7. Everyone present, with a closing wish

Vote of thanks for the morning assembly (Classes 3 to 5)

Good morning, everyone. On behalf of Class 4, I would like to thank our principal for giving us the chance to present today's assembly.

Thank you to our class teacher for helping us prepare, and to all the teachers for being here. A big thank you to my classmates who spoke, sang and read the news so well.

And thank you, everyone, for listening so patiently. Have a wonderful day!

Vote of thanks for annual day (Classes 6 to 8)

Good evening, respected chief guest, our principal, teachers, parents and my dear friends. It is my honour to propose the vote of thanks for this wonderful annual day.

First, we thank our chief guest for taking time out of a busy schedule to be with us and for the inspiring words. Your presence made this evening special.

We are grateful to our principal for the guidance and encouragement that made this celebration possible. We thank our teachers for the many hours of planning and rehearsals, and our support staff for working behind the scenes, from the stage to the sound and the seating.

A special thank you to the parents, for your support at home and your applause tonight. And to every student who danced, sang, acted and volunteered: you made this evening shine.

Thank you all for being here. We wish you a safe journey home and a very good night.

Vote of thanks for sports day

Good morning, respected chief guest, our principal, teachers, parents and fellow students. On behalf of the whole school, I propose the vote of thanks for today's sports day.

We thank our chief guest for gracing the event and encouraging every athlete. We thank our principal and our sports teachers, who trained us for weeks and organised every race and drill so smoothly.

Thank you to the parents who came to cheer, to the ground staff who prepared the field, and to the volunteers who kept everything running. Congratulations to the winners, and well done to everyone who took part. Today, every one of us showed the true spirit of sport.

Thank you, and have a great day.

Mistakes to avoid

  1. Reading too fast. Slow down, especially on names.
  2. Mispronouncing the chief guest's name. Check it with a teacher beforehand.
  3. Thanking people one by one for five minutes. Thank them in groups.
  4. Forgetting the support staff. They notice, and it matters.
  5. Looking down at the paper the whole time. Look up at the audience after each line.

How to practise at home

  1. Write the chief guest's name and title on a card and practise saying it.
  2. Practise pausing after each group you thank.
  3. Stand still with both feet steady, and look at different parts of the audience.
  4. Practise standing up, three times a day for a few days, and record one practice to watch together.

Questions parents ask

How do you start a vote of thanks?

"Good morning (or evening), respected chief guest, our principal, teachers, parents and my dear friends. It is my honour to propose the vote of thanks."
