What your child practises
- Letter sounds A to ZEach letter's sound with a picture and an action, so it sticks: a for apple, b for ball.
- BlendingJoining sounds to read short words: c-a-t, cat. The step most children need help with.
- Word familiesReading groups of rhyming words like cat, hat, mat and bat to build speed.
- Sight wordsCommon words like the, is, was and said that are learned by sight.
- First readingReading short sentences and picture stories aloud, and talking about them.
- Speaking in sentencesUsing new words in full sentences, so reading and spoken English grow together.

Questions parents ask
What age should my child start phonics?
Most children are ready between 4 and 6, around UKG, once they can hold attention for a short game and recognise a few letters. We check readiness in the free demo.
My child knows the alphabet song. Isn't that enough?
The song teaches letter names (ay, bee, see). Reading needs letter sounds (a as in apple, b as in ball) and the skill of blending them into words, which is what phonics classes teach.
How long does it take to start reading?
It depends on the child's age and how often they practise. After the demo we tell you where your child is starting from and what to expect, and you get a progress report every week so you can see each step.
Can a 5-year-old really learn online?
Yes, when the class is 1:1 and built for young children: short activities, pictures, songs, actions and games on screen. A parent nearby for the first few classes helps.
How long is a class?
Each class is 60 minutes, with plenty of movement and game breaks for younger children. The free 1:1 demo session is about 60 to 70 minutes.
